The big theme for the monsoon capsule this year has been to work with new items after the last few years of dominantly not buying new clothes as much (including a couple of years of not buying any at all.) I have quite enjoyed both the process of searching for as well as styling the new items for the capsule. These newly added items also served as the starting point for shaping the capsule wardrobe and included a mix of items from Indian sustainable brands as well as regular brands.
I got started by picking a couple of tees from an Indian sustainable brand I have been meaning to check out for years called No Nasties. One of them is a muslin tee in white with purple stripes on it. The other is a graphic tee (heart) in green. Other than these tees from No Nasties, I have also included a couple of new additions from Nicobar and MarchTee including a kurta in purple from the former and a longer sleeved tee in beige from the latter.
I also got a few items from regular or non-sustainable brands, including a windbreaker, new sneakers, and a longer-sleeved tee for the nippy days. I’ve been particularly excited about the windbreaker as I did not own one. I was also elated to find one by a designer who I find inspiring as an artist (Paul Smith) and one that fits me. Next up, I decided to add a pair of sneakers to the capsule. The idea was to pick something that aligned with the color scheme of the monsoon capsule and also added some pop to my otherwise boring footwear collection.
Speaking of the color theme for the capsule, I have tried to include items in colors that represent monsoon for me. This includes earthy colors like green, brown, and grey but also colors with an astral twist like navy and purple (my favorite color!) Color served as a deciding factor for most if not all of my picks for the capsule, including old and new items.
In striking contrast to previous iterations, the last step in putting together the capsule turned out to be picking seasonal items. The usual monsoon staples from my wardrobe such as my gum boots or poncho make it to the capsule this year.
