I’ve been eagerly awaiting the arrival of winter this year, especially with the monsoon season having lingered on longer than usual. I began putting together the capsule together much earlier than usual and had fun with the head-start. It gave me room to approach things with a bit more intention (and play.)
Winter’s always been my favorite season to dress for. There’s something comforting about layering, not just the warmth but also the chance to experiment - to mix textures, tones, and small details without feeling overdone.
Cozy fits and subtle colors
In contrast to the norm of starting with seasonal items (layers in this case), I began putting together the winter capsule this year by starting with basics for both tops and bottoms. These initial picks revolved primarily around color and fit.
For fit, I leaned into pieces that offer a relaxed and cozy silhouette. I went with versatile pieces that worked but indoors and outdoors like my 501s or the wide-legged trousers from Muji. The basics also include a few new addition including a couple of new tees from Uniqlo and MarchTee and shorts from Uniqlo. On the color front, I wanted the capsule to be colorful without being loud. The idea was to bring in subtle shades that fit the winter mood: grey, dark green, deep navy, and earthy beige.
Versatility through layers and accessories
Like I mentioned earlier, one of the fun things about winter styling is the chance to play with layers. It’s that rare time of year when you can. This years winter capsule includes a blend of lightweight knits, long-sleeve tees, and a couple of jackets that transition easily from day to night.
Some of the key layers include:
My grey jumper from H&M, which has a beautiful night sky like texture and a great fit
The navy Fred Perry jacket, a piece that instantly ties looks together without much thought + offers utility
My beige jacket, serves as a lighter-toned alternative to the navy jacket
Layering opens up infinite combinations. I’ve been enjoying small pairings — a striped tee under a beige jacket, or a maroon tee with black trousers and a navy layer on top. Even repeating outfits feels new when the textures shift. That’s the beauty of winter: it rewards subtle changes.
Winter-friendly accessories
The final layer — both literally and metaphorically — came through accessories. I kept things minimal but intentional:
A black scarf that belonged to my mother — soft, timeless, and a quiet reminder of home.
A Steve Zissou-esque red beanie from Muji — a small, playful detail that brightens neutral tones.
My CDG x Converse Hightops, reminiscent of college days which I’ve come to rely on for colder days when I still want to move lightly.
Each of these adds warmth and texture without overpowering the capsule. Together, they make the collection feel complete — practical, personal, and a little bit nostalgic.
